World Suicide Prevention Day - Take Time To Reach Out
You can save a life by reaching out when you notice the warning signs of suicide. These signs can mean that someone is at risk for suicide, especially if the behaviour is unusual for that person.
Here are some of the signs to look out for:
Talking about wanting to die or suicide
Talking about feeling hopeless, trapped, or having no reason to live
Talking about being a burden on others
Putting affairs in order
Giving away possessions
Visiting people to say goodbye
Planning how to commit suicide, such as buying a firearm
Withdrawn
Increase in alcohol or drug use
Extreme changes in sleep
Reckless behaviour
Extreme mood changes
If you see these warning signs, encourage the person to seek help by calling a crisis line.
